Stairs, platforms, walkways and guardrails are critical access elements in an industrial facility. In the oil and gas sector, client and site requirements make the specification even more important. A complete specification avoids rework and speeds up approval.
Use and frequency
Who will use the access route, how often and carrying what? Occasional maintenance access and daily movement of crews with tools call for different dimensions, pitches and loads.
Loads and interfaces
Define the expected service loads and the interfaces with existing equipment and structures: support points, bolted or welded connections, clearances and tolerances. Drawings or site surveys reduce uncertainty.
Exposure environment
Exposure to weather, salinity, chemicals or high temperatures determines the corrosion protection system and the type of flooring: welded grating, anti-slip plate or another solution. These requirements should be in the specification from the start.
Client requirements and acceptance
In many facilities, the client has its own specifications, supplier qualification requirements, inspection procedures and handover documentation. Identifying them in the request makes it possible to prepare a proposal aligned with what will be checked.
- Applicable standards and specifications;
- Planned inspections and tests;
- Handover documentation (as-built drawings, material certificates, reports);
- Site access, safety and installation conditions.
